Define debit and credit amounts
Use Debit Amount or Credit Amount to enter the amount for a general journal line. The corresponding fields also appear in customer and vendor ledger entries. A journal line doesn't need equal values in both fields. The transaction must balance when you post it.
Steps to define debit and credit amounts

Fill in the fields as described in the following table.
Field Description Debit Amount Enter the amount to debit the account on this line. Credit Amount Enter the amount to credit the account on this line. Enter a balancing account or additional journal lines so that the transaction balances.
You can save journal lines before the transaction is balanced. The transaction must balance before you post it.
